An old lady selling banana and pineapple fruits on a beach. The day was quiet and not many tourists coming. In fact there was just the lady alone in the photo patiently waiting for customers.

A Karen hilltribe man rowing a bamboo raft on Mae Kloong river in Umphang. The river flowing through limestone cliffs in the middle of tropical rain forest is a popular rafting waterway for both local and international visitors. These tribal peoples work as river guides, jungle guides, porters and helpers when there are tour groups. When there are no guests they may find job in the house construction and repair, in the hill farms, or go for fishing.

After sundown at a fishing vilage in Trat, eastern Thailand. Various sizes of fishing boats lined the canals that form the center lines of the quarters in the village. The canals which have sea outlet are the safe places to moor the boats against the possible bad weather at sea. The rows of houses run parallel to the canals.

The house at the canal mouth
The house at the canal mouth. This is one of the last houses at the sea end of the canal. As a fisherman family home there are things associated with fishing: nets and ropes, buckets to handle fish and ice, supplies for the boats and so on. A wooden walkway on stilts links the house to other homes in the village, and to the car road. Obviously they would also use small boats for travelling around.

Another fishing family house on stilts at the sea beach. Visit of such a village gives you understanding of the ways the people of different life live, and from where and how some of the products you consume are made available. You can put them and yourself in the web of the world order and think about the relationship..., and the future of this relation and so on. At the same time you have time for relax, to read or to wrire, and if you like to make photos or drawings of this part of the world and many lives at sea.
